Very good food also value for money, Really beautiful and relaxing place,Most enjoyable evening
Genuine and delicious – every time
As we have our holiday home here in Xewkija Giovanni’s is our home away from home. It’s situated right in front of the Xewkija parish. Not only is the ambience beautiful and sparkling clean, the food is just delicious and genuine. All the staff is committed to make their guests feel special. They are all so very nice and friendly and the chef is an artist outside and inside the kitchen – which shows in all the dishes served. It ‘s a pleasure to see his passion for food. We never left anything but absolutely happy and with a big smile.
Simple and genuine
Never knew about his restaurant before. It is very clean and also very nice decor. Service was excellent, restaurant quite and well kept. Food very well cooked and presented, genuine and tasty. Keep up the good work. …..ps The duck breast is unique!!
Truly Fresh and Genuine
Been at Giovanni’s for the first time for Sunday lunch. We were greeted by the friendly staff in this hidden gem in Xewkija that we never knew about. We were presented with the menu and ordered our drinks. After ordering, the complimentary antipasto arrived made with freshly baked bread and traditional sundried tomatoes and olives. But the top hit was the veal tomahawk and traditional rabbit. The two were impeccably cooked and presented. A big thumbs up to all. Good job.
This was the second time for us at Giovanni’s . We visited on Saturday and was rather busy. The open kitchen concept catches your eye and the atmosphere is a wonderful one. To top it all up was the excellent food served and cooked to perfection……we had some specials of the day and must say that it was the best choice. The cherry on the cake were all the home made desserts. So its worth keeping an eye on the daily specials. Good job to all the staff.
The best in town
As always, this place offered an amazing night to us. Food was amazing and service was great. A surely must if you are in Gozo
Went here on a spur of the moment decision, and what a great decision! It was delicious. Service super, food delicious and portions, as ever with Gozo, huge! Steak was just superb (although I did have to take a chunk home!). Son No 1 thoroughly enjoyed his pasta, and son 2 tucked into the starter fishcakes with gusto, announcing that they were the best he’d ever had….which he quickly clarified except for the ones that I make!!!! Sister had chicken, and (embarrassed to say), can’t remember what the other half had! Empty plates all around (except for the bit of steak that I took home!)
An exquisite food experience
We went to eat at Giovanni’s by chance but were honestly very very pleased with our last minute decision! Wonderful, quick service, super yummy food and great overall experience. Surely not our last visit here!
Best meal I’ve ever had in Gozo
I’m someone who enjoys their food, and I have to say the Duck in cranberry sauce I had at Giovannis blew me away. Genuinely the best meal I’ve had in my life so far. Perfect.
As for the restaurant itself the staff are lovely and always great with my little one, now that Giovannis is in the square in Xjewkija theres no need to drive out for a good meal.
We really enjoyed this meal. I thought the food was wonderful quality and really well-prepared. My son loved his swordfish. Thank you!
In a warm Summer Gozitan evening, we ended up in this beautiful square under the majestic dome. We sat outside where we were greeted by a very charming waiter who guided us through the menu. We had clams pasta and ravioli followed by Chicken in masala wine sauce and calamari in wine. All the food was mouthwatering, fresh and beautifully presented. All in all good value for menu and fresh ingredients.
Great dining experience
Been there on a Friday evening. The restaurant was getting busier by the time, as we made our order. The place is wonderfully decorated and the service was good. But the best part of it all was the food, we made our choice varying from local rabbit dishes to an array of pasta and steaks were all beautifully cooked to perfection. Thumbs up for the quality of food and also for the chef’s opera singing while cooking.
Luckily it is a good restaurant as other than the couple of café/bars across the square there is nothing else close by at all! We were in a B&B nearby and the owner suggested all the places we went to and Giovanni’s was one of them. We had dinner three times as we didn’t want to drive; every time excellent food that is cooked in the open-plan kitchen. One thing, the portions are large but “to share” is not a problem to them. It is also very nicely finished inside so don’t be put off by the nondescript frontage as it doesn’t do it justice.
The best restaurant in Gozo
2 chefs work in the kitchen before our eyes. An exceptional and generous reception and service staff. It’s simple, we ate there 3 nights in a row! High quality Italian cuisine, as the Maltese know how to do. Tomato, cheese, cold cuts … all the ingredients taste good. The pasta is to die for. Ahhh …
We decided to have dinner here because we were in a hotel next door. The food was good, and so was our host.
It was interesting to see our food being prepared through their open kitchen.
We had antipasti and some Maltese bread, and we couldn’t finish the platter. The Maltese sausage and cheese were tasty. For starters, my Partner had ravioli and I had prawns risotto. Both dishes were good and well presented. For main my Partner had pork medallions with mustard and honey sauce he said he enjoyed it and I had a rabbit which was nice too. We didn’t go for desserts as we were both stuffed. Giovanni’s is a place worth another visit when back on the island.
Great Italian and local cuisine
Dined in Giovanni’s when staying at the hotel next door.
A good choice of dishes on the menu. We treated ourselves to antipasti, a small pasta course, and mains, all wonderfully prepared and presented. Together with a bottle of wine this set us back just under EUR 80 for two, which I rate as decent for the quality of food we received.
Large family group
Our family group of 9 went here on our first night. Staff were very attentive , friendly and helpful.
We all had a variety of starters and mains. Food was delicious and good portion sizes.
We called back again but sadly they were shut for public holiday, but we are determined to fit in another visit before we go home
Excellent Beef Fillet
This was our first visit here, and definitely will not be the last. The service was excellent, and the staff lovely. We chose a lovely bottle of red wine to go with our fillet steak, which was cooked as requested and can safely say this was the best steak we have had for some time. We would highly recommend this restaurant as the prices are very reasonably and located in the village square.
You better speed up…. if you want delicious and authentic Italian food. Especially the pasta is highly recommended. Enjoy!
Great experience at Giovanni’s
One of the best restaurants I have visited so far in Malta and Gozo. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and at a very good price. Even the aperitive food on the house was great. We ordered the lamb shanks and the duck breast. Highly recommended.
Great service to contribute to a relaxed evening
Four of us arrived around 11pm on New Year’s Eve. The staff accommodated us and within ten minutes we were seated for some delicious desserts and drinks. The barman even came over to see what sort of cocktails we wanted since they weren’t on the menu. They have every range of spirits at very reasonable prices. It’s a very comfortable and stylish restaurant. Would definitely recommend the place.
I had local rabbit in 3 different places around Malta and this one was by far The best. My company’s food was delicious as well.
A perfect family dinner
The place was packed with guests yet the service was efficient, professional and pleasant. Staff were extremely courteous. Food was exquisite, cooked to perfection. Indeed, Giovanni’s offers good value for money!
Made our holiday
We discovered this restaurant when searching for a place to eat on our first night of our holiday in a villa in Xewkija, Gozo. We were warmly welcomed and surprised that the beautifully clean and decorated restaurant was not fuller on a Saturday evening.
We were a family of 4 and had 2 courses and drinks and all the food was cooked to perfection. On our 2 visits during our week’s stay we ate fish soup, the beef steak, several pasta dishes, seafood dishes, lamb and duck. The accompaniments were also delicious and the meals and drinks for 4 cost around 130 euros.
We loved this restaurant and wished we had found it sooner so that we could have had a return visit. There were so many lovely dishes on the menu it was hard to choose. The food was amazing, and we enjoyed every course we had. We have to give a mention to the friendly staff as well especially Manuel who took the time to talk to us as we ordered and gave us lots of tips for our holiday. If we ever get back to Gozo this will be the first restaurant on our list to visit. Excellent
Calm and Peaceful
Xexkija is a calm and peaceful place, so is Giovanni’s which is located in the main square. Though the outside section looks very modest, the food is very high quality here. We went there for lunch, had no reservation, yet we could still find a vacant table under the umbrella. Those who arrived after us were not that lucky though, but the indoor section is quite large anyway. There were only 2 waiters when we were there and the service was very swift. My husband and I, we both had pastas, and they were both delicious. We also had coffee which was very good too. The prices were very reasonable too.If you arrive with your car, there is plenty of parking place just in front of the restaurant
Today we had a fantastic lunch at Xewkija Gozo. Both starters and main course were delicious. Fish and rib eye were fantastic. Waiters very helpful.
Very good food.
Nice and very friendly staff, good food, what else you need??
Very good location at the village square with lots of parking space.
Traditional family run restaurant. The food is excellent. I had duck with accompanying potatoes and vegetables, all beautifully cooked. I would highly recommend a visit, prices are also reasonable.
Visited with my husband. It reminded us of our local Italian restaurant. Food was tasty and filling and beautifully prepared and served. It was not expensive and we really liked it. Definitely a restaurant we will return to.
Probably the best steak I’ve eaten in a very long time. Big screen can be avoided. Up market interior.
Good food and a nice open kitchen.
Me and my girlfriend both got the grilled chicken masala with baked potatoes and vegetables. It was so good!
Lovely food n ambience
Staff were nice n polite. Very good quality food. I had a swordfish and my partner had fresh pasta with fish.. Absolutely delicious 🙂 Definitely recommend!
What a lovely little find in the square. contemporary cosmopolitan restaurant reasonably priced and wonderful food cooked to order.
Good advice on specials and wine. Defiantly be back
What can I say! An amazing restaurant that you must visit if you are in Gozo. Very tidy, food is beautiful and the owner Ruth is an amazing person.Always with a smile on her face and ready to help. We have been there for breakfast and also for dinner. My two kids loved this restaurant a lot.
